In areas near the city of Bakhmut, Fr. Vasyl Pasichnyk-Rak, a chaplaincy syncellus of the Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy of the UGCC and a military chaplain, served Divine Liturgies for the courageous and staunch defenders of Ukraine.

The chaplain said the soldiers were happy to receive the Sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist. They received blessings from the relics of St. Josaphat Kuntsevych, the apostle of unity and love. It is known that this year has been declared the year of this saint.

The clergyman also assured the soldiers of the spiritual unity of the entire Church with the army. According to the chaplain, the spiritual conversations lasted for hours — until late at night.

“The war has caused tremendous destruction and casualties. The worst thing is spiritual wounds. We are getting over the disaster with the Word of God and prayer,” emphasizes Fr. Vasyl.

On behalf of the command of the military unit A7091, a personalized flag was presented to the Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy of the UGCC as a token of gratitude and respect.

“We will continue to support the Armed Forces with all our efforts, praying to God and His saints for a victorious end to the bloody war,” assures the Archdiocese’s chaplaincy ministry and adds: “We need more human resources to join the ranks of the defenders. We need to consider the inevitable losses and the factor of rapid physical and psychological burnout of the military.”
