The official website of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church has published materials for the Week of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and Consecrated Life, which will take place from November 21 to 27, 2026. These specially prepared resources will help parishes organize prayer events, meetings with young people, and communal prayer in families. All the materials are available on a dedicated page of the UGCC website.

Seven Days of Prayer for Vocations: The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Prepares Materials for Parishes and Families

The Week of Prayer for Vocations was established by a decision of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, held in Zarvanytsia from July 1 to 10, 2026. The prayer initiative will begin on November 21, the Feast of the Entrance into the Temple of Our Most Holy Lady, the Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary.

In accordance with the Synod’s decision, every UGCC parish is to hold prayer services and meetings with young people during this week, encouraging young men and women to reflect on a possible vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life.

To help organize the Week of Prayer, the UGCC Patriarchal Commission on Clergy and the UGCC Patriarchal Commission on Monasticism, together with the UGCC Information Department, have prepared a collection of resources for priests, youth groups, and families. All the materials are available on a dedicated page of the Church’s official website: ugcc.ua/vocations.

What Materials Have Been Prepared?

The website features several resources designed for different participants in the Week of Prayer.

Guide for Priests contains practical recommendations for preparing and conducting the Week of Prayer for Vocations at the parish level. It is intended to help priests organize prayer events and involve the parish community.

A Guide for the Domestic Church is designed to guide families in daily prayer from November 21 to 27. Each day includes a Bible reading, a spiritual reflection, a prayer, and a practical activity. The materials are arranged to help parents pray together with their children, talk about the faith, and help them discover their own vocation.

Guide for a Youth Gathering offers a script for a parish gathering dedicated to discerning one’s vocation. It is based on the Gospel account of the disciples on the road to Emmaus and the words: “Then their eyes were opened” (Luke 24:31). The meeting, scheduled for November 22, is intended to help young people reflect on how to recognize God’s presence in their lives and respond to His call.

Presentation for the Clergy will help priests become familiar with the purpose, content, and organizational details of the Week of Prayer for Vocations.

In addition, the page contains a collection of prayers for vocations that can be used during parish services, group gatherings, and personal prayer.

A Special Invitation to Pray as a Family

The organizers emphasize that the Week of Prayer for Vocations is not confined to parish events. It is important that families, as the primary setting for Christian formation, also pray for new vocations.

“We especially urge each of you to take part in this prayer initiative where you live, in your home, and together with your family. This Guide has been prepared precisely for this purpose; in it, you will find prayers, Bible readings, reflections, and daily exercises for November 21–27,” write Bishop Bohdan Danylo, chairman of the UGCC Patriarchal Commission on Clergy, and Bishop Mykhailo Bubniy, chairman of the UGCC Patriarchal Commission on Monasticism, in their introductory remarks.

According to the bishops, praying together as a family can be an opportunity not only to ask God for new priestly and monastic vocations, but also to help each family member reflect on their own life’s path and service in the Church.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to pray together for the gift of vocation, and we hope that you will take advantage of it to listen together in your domestic Church to the voice of God, who speaks to each of us, and to open yourselves to God’s call to various forms of service to God in His Church, in accordance with the gifts you have received from Him,” the bishops emphasize.

All Materials on a Single Page

For the convenience of users, the official UGCC website has created a dedicated page for the Week of Prayer for Vocations, bringing together all the prepared resources.

The materials can be viewed online and downloaded for use in parishes, youth groups, and families. In particular, the Guide for the Domestic Church is available as an interactive online resource, which allows users to follow the seven days of prayer step by step, as well as in a PDF version.

All materials are available in four languages: Ukrainian, English, Spanish, and Portuguese. This makes it possible for not only the faithful in Ukraine but also Ukrainian Greek Catholic communities around the world to take part in the Week of Prayer for Vocations.

You can view and download the materials on the dedicated page: https://ugcc.ua/vocations/.

The UGCC Patriarchal Commissions invite priests, monastic communities, young people, and families to join the Week of Prayer for Vocations and together ask the Lord for new vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.
