On June 20, the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, participated in the award ceremony of the XVII National Competition “Charitable Ukraine-2023” — “Charity in Defense of Ukraine.” Among the winners were the UGCC Charitable Foundation Caritas Ukraine and the St. Sophia Religious Association of Ukrainian Catholics.

“Charitable Ukraine is a blessed Ukraine!” — Head of the UGCC at the Awarding Ceremony of the National Competition of Philanthropists

The event was attended by Bishop Mykola Bychok of the Melbourne Eparchy, representing the vast Ukrainian community in Australia, and Fr. Lubomyr Yavorsky, Patriarchal Economist.

In his welcoming remarks, the Head of the Church emphasized that charity in times of war means saved lives, renewed hope, and the ability to perform acts that, according to Christian tradition, are acts created for eternity.

“Charitable Ukraine reflects our ability to be God’s hands that raise the downcast human hands, that heal wounds, that can overcome hatred with love, evil with the power of good,” said the Primate.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav then congratulated all the winners of the annual national competition of philanthropists: “May victory be with us because a charitable Ukraine is a blessed Ukraine, which is striving to defeat all evil, to defeat the Russian aggressor who is now destroying Ukrainian land.”

Reference

The Association of Philanthropists of Ukraine is the founder of the National Contest “Charitable Ukraine,” which was held this year for the 17th time in a row (until 2012 — the contest “Philanthropist of the Year”). It is the only existing national project to recognize the best philanthropists and the most effective charitable initiatives in the Ukrainian public space. The contest is a notable event in the charitable life of our country. It recognizes the best philanthropists, volunteers, and patrons of the arts in the country and the most effective charitable initiatives with a unique Angel of Kindness award. Within the charity community, this award is informally called the charity Oscar. Over the years, the contest has become a momentous event in the social life of our country.
