The Ukrainian World Youth Day organizing committee has already held the first meeting for those keen to become volunteers for # WYD2023 in Lisbon. The online meeting brought together almost 20 young people — representatives of the UGCC and RCC, from different parts of Ukraine.

“The participation of Ukrainian youth in general and volunteers, in particular, is organized by the Patriarchal Commission on Youth of the UGCC and the Conference of Bishops of the RCC. Moreover, we have the right to issue visas. That is, young people who want to volunteer during WYD must obtain permission from the Ukrainian Organizing Committee,” explained Fr. Roman Demush, a member of the WYD Organizing Committee from Ukraine, deputy head of the Patriarchal Youth Commission of the UGCC.

As part of the preparations for World Youth Day, various stages of interaction are planned for volunteers.

“Besides introductory meetings, we expect monthly formation courses for volunteers. They will be held under the auspices of the Central Organizing Committee. Thus, young people will be able to acquire the appropriate skills and competencies to serve during WYD for two weeks — first at the preparatory stage and a week later — directly at the event. At the end of the event, all volunteers are going to meet with Pope Francis, which is important,” added Fr. Roman.

The Ukrainian Organizing Committee of World Youth Day emphasizes the importance of Ukrainian youth participating in volunteer service during WYD.

“We want to show the world that Ukrainian youth are ready to serve and are open to the needs of others. Moreover, this is a unique opportunity to talk about Ukraine among volunteers from all over the world. To date, there are more than 10,000 people who have volunteered for WYD. So far, about 50 people from Ukraine live in different countries,” said Fr. Roman.

Everyone can join the team of volunteers and go on a great mission to Lisbon to meet with Pope Francis.

To do this, you only need to send your CV (indicating previous volunteer experience, a reasonable motivation to participate in WYD as a volunteer, and links to your social networks) to the email address of the Ukrainian WYD Organizing Committee: [email protected].

Don’t forget to specify ‘SHORT-TERM VOLUNTEERING’ in the subject line.
