UGCC celebrates the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly for the third time
On Sunday, July 23, the third World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly was marked. On this occasion, the UGCC and RCC churches celebrated additional prayers, blessed older parishioners, and brought out appropriate litanies and sermons for the elderly. У неділю, 23 липня, утретє відбувся Світовий день дідусів, бабусь та людей похилого віку. З цієї нагоди у храмах УГКЦ і РКЦ відслужили додаткові молитви, благословили старших парафіян, виголосили відповідні єктенії і проповіді в наміренні людей похилого віку.
The celebration of this day was launched by Pope Francis 3 years ago and established as an annual holiday on the fourth Sunday of July in the Catholic Church. This year’s event slogan was a verse from the Gospel of Luke: “And his mercy is from generation to generation” (1:50).
In Lviv, specifically, a festive event dedicated to this day was held for the first time — a performance by the amateur theater “Alatea” from Lutsk with a play about family relationships “Is it like that for you too? Or is it any different?”.
Mr. Yuriy Pidlisny, chairman of the UGCC Commission on Family and Laity, welcomed the audience with a greeting.
Many Lviv families attended the performance — many grandparents came with their adult children and grandchildren.
