On Wednesday, February 8, in a small synodal hall of the Patriarchal center in Kyiv, His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with a delegation of religious leaders from the USA, Great Britain, and Poland, who arrived in Ukraine with a multi-day visit of solidarity for the second time. An organizer of the visit is a pan-European, non-partisan, cross-political advocacy and expert initiative, “Europe, a Patient.”

The delegation arrived in Kyiv to pray for a ‘just peace’ and learn from Ukrainian religious leaders and government officials about their life and ministering during wartime.

Religious leaders will also visit Bucha, Irpin, and Borodyanka to talk to people who have suffered the consequences of the Russian invasion and occupation. “We believe our physical presence here is a special prayer. And the interreligious nature of the delegation proves the possibility and necessity of a just peace,” explained Mateusz Piotrowski, president of “Europe, a Patient” at a press conference.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav told the religious leaders from European countries about the marks of Russian aggression in Ukraine and the need to defend the truth, which is the first victim of this war. He highlighted the danger of ‘Russkiy mir,’ an ideology that some Orthodox theologians have already called a modern heresy of Christianity. The Head of the UGCC also emphasized the importance of human dignity, a value of God’s origin granted to each person.
