On Monday, October 17, the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, visited Mykolaiv as part of his pastoral visit to the South of Ukraine, where he met with representatives of the local authorities and the military. He also visited the parish of the Intercession of the Theotokos.

The Head of the UGCC came to Mykolaiv to express his gratitude and support to the courageous people of this indomitable city

“Today, being in Mykolaiv means touching the wounds of this city and Ukraine’s suffering. But we do not regret the fact that we are fighting. Thus, only the one who fights for his freedom is worth it. Only the one who will not leave the will of his Motherland in anyone’s hands will win”, said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

Therefore, His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Kim and discussed several issues regarding cooperation to solve urgent problems in the Mykolaiv region due to enemy shelling. The Head of the UGCC inquired about the situation in the city and region, particularly with drinking water, and assured that the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, in accordance with its capabilities, will try to help solve the existing problems.

On this day, His Beatitude Sviatoslav also visited the parish of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, where he prayed together with the faithful for the victory of Ukraine. The Head of the UGCC noted that the Church grows where the priest stays in his place and performs his ministry even in extreme conditions. Everything is there then: there is someone to come to, someone to help, there is a heart of prayer, social service, and other dimensions of the Church’s presence.

Addressing the faithful, His Beatitude Sviatoslav noted that we still do not fully know and understand how deeply the enemy has wounded the body of the Ukrainian people. It will probably take decades to heal the wounds of war.

“But today, I would like to touch the head of each one of you so that through the touch of the Lord’s servants, Jesus Christ himself will touch you. Because living in a city that is shelled every day is both heroism and wounds,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
