On November 25, on the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor Genocide, a joint prayer for the victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine was held at the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in Kyiv. The Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, took part in the prayer together with the leaders of churches and religious organizations of Ukraine and the military and political leadership of the state. The prayer followed the most massive Russian attack on Kyiv last night, which was the largest in the entire war.

Religious leaders, together with the military and political leadership of Ukraine, prayed for the victims of the Holodomor in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Each of the spiritual leaders said his prayer for the innocent people killed by the famine in Ukraine.

“Rest with the saints, O Christ, the souls of your servants innocently killed by famine in Ukraine where there is no pain, no sorrow, no crying, but life everlasting. You alone are immortal, the Creator and former of humankind. We, earthly creatures, are formed from the ground and shall return to the same ground, as you commanded, the One who made me and declared that you are the ground and will pass into the ground, where all of us humans will go. Singing a song with a solemn lament: Alleluia.”

After the prayer, the heads of churches and leaders of religious organizations, together with the President of Ukraine and military and political leadership representatives, proceeded to the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide.

Foreign delegations also took part in the memorial service: President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, President of Switzerland Alain Berset, Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonite, heads and members of foreign parliaments, and representatives of the diplomatic corps.

Today, on November 25, at 16:00, a nationwide commemoration, ‘Light a Candle” will occur. It will be preceded by a memorial service at the memorial to the victims of the Holodomor Genocide in Kyiv, led by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the UGCC.
