On April 30, Fr. Lubomyr Yavorskyy, Patriarchal Economist of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, met with Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś during a visit to the Archdiocese of Kraków to express gratitude. The UGCC delegation arrived in Kraków to personally express gratitude for the extensive aid provided to the residents of Kyiv following the appeal by the Metropolitan of Kraków in January of this year.

This was reported by the press service of the Patriarchal Foundation Wise Cause.

According to Fr. Lubomyr Yavorskyy, the aid organized at the initiative of the cardinal and the local Caritas network became vital for the Ukrainian capital during the harsh winter.

“Thanks to their help, we in Kyiv and its suburbs survived this extremely harsh winter. It saved lives,” the priest emphasized.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian delegation presented Cardinal Ryś with a symbolic gift—a miniature model of a generator similar to the one he had purchased at his own expense for a children’s rehabilitation center in one of Kyiv’s hardest-hit districts.

Following the appeal issued on January 24, 2026, approximately 6.5 million zlotys were raised in the Archdiocese of Kraków. Thanks to these funds and donations from benefactors, nine humanitarian aid convoys were organized. Dozens of powerful generators, over a thousand heaters, hundreds of power devices, as well as tons of food, hygiene supplies, and other necessary equipment were delivered to Kyiv for the parishes’ Points of Invincibility.

During the visit, the UGCC delegation also met with Fr. Łukasz Słusarczyk, director of Caritas of the Archdiocese of Kraków, and staff members of the charitable foundation. The guests were introduced to the work of the charitable centers, including visits to a Catholic school, care centers for the elderly and people with special needs, as well as a food distribution point.

Father Lubomyr Yavorskyy emphasized that it is not only the aid itself that is important, but also its timeliness—especially at a time of greatest need. He also added that despite the difficult situation in Ukraine, where a full-scale war has been raging for five years now, representatives of the UGCC remain hopeful and feel the support of the Church standing alongside the people of Ukraine.
