In the way that the Church opened temples, monasteries, seminaries, and spiritual centers to the needy during the Revolution of Dignity, COVID, since the beginning of the war, their dungeons became bomb shelters for hundreds of people, so now we gladly want to open our temples and monasteries to children. The Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, said addressing educators and children on Wednesday, August 17.

The Primate invited school principals to visit the nearest Greek-Catholic churches to equip and, if necessary, use church dungeons to protect children during air raids. “So that these dungeons are not only proper bomb shelters but means for continuing further educational process for those children who will need a shelter. We are ready to be of assistance!” emphasized His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

The Head of the UGCC also noted that Ukraine is preparing for the start of the new academic year, which will start on September 1.

“We know how teachers miss their pupils and students, how they miss the community of their classes, courses, friends, acquaintances, and relatives. At a time when the Ukrainian state is preparing to start face-to-face learning in schools and universities, the Minister of Education appealed to help to guarantee the safety of our schoolchildren and students during air raids,” said the Head of the Church and added: “War steals your childhood and youth. Instead of thinking about learning, about education, many of you are thinking about war, and many of you will probably not be able to sit down at the school desk on September 1. Your teachers will do everything to open access to education in a way that will be available to you. But our Church, Mother, and Teacher, wants to serve you here too!”
