On March 25, we celebrate the first anniversary of the consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by Pope Francis. Therefore, it is essential to renew the consecration of our long-suffering Ukrainian people today, stated the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, during the Liturgy for the victims of war and peace in Ukraine at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv.

In his homily, the Father and Head of the Church recalled that a year ago, Pope Francis consecrated Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This gesture, he added, was made conforming to the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Fatima.

The Virgin Mary warned that a great disaster would come from Russia, ‘a deadly tornado will come out of there.’ And She asked the whole world to pray for the conversion of Russia. According to the Head of the UGCC, one of the ways to stop the evil that poisons the world is to consecrate the aggressor country to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

“On this day, the Holy Father also consecrated Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary so that we, Ukrainians, could feel her heavenly maternal protection over us so that we could be sure that our Heavenly Mother suffers, prays, and fights with us with her immaculate heart,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

The Head of the UGCC noted that after this consecration last year, the moment of liberation of Ukrainian lands from the deadly boot of the Russian aggressor began. “But so many of our lands are still waiting for freedom,” he said.

That is why the Pope urged the renewal of this consecration and move forward to defeat evil and move toward life.

“Today, we feel that the Blessed Virgin Mary is among us. To her Immaculate Heart, we are now renewing the consecration of our long-suffering Ukrainian people,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

On March 25, 2022, the bishops of the UGCC from Ukraine united with Pope Francis in the Act of Consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary from Zarvanytsia.
