“Ukrainian Youth for Christ” Has a New Leader
On October 4, in Ternopil, a change in leadership took place within the Association of the Faithful of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church “Ukrainian Youth for Christ”—the only youth organization of patriarchal status within the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The respective decree of the Head of the UGCC was read aloud after the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Church of St. Peter the Apostle, over which His Beatitude Sviatoslav presided on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi.
Khrystyna Potereyko completed her term as head of the community for 2023–2026. His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked her for her service, particularly for her work following the reorganization of the Ukrainian Youth Movement (UMH), which resulted in the consolidation of local chapters into a patriarchal-level organization.
“In our Church, there are many youth communities and organizations of various types, but only one has patriarchal status. The charter of this youth organization was approved by the Synod of Bishops. Following its reorganization, the term of the first head of this organization in modern history is coming to an end. Dear Khrystyna Potereyko is stepping down today, and her successor is taking over the leadership of this organization,” said the Head of the UGCC.
In his letter of appreciation, His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked Khrystyna Potereyko for the responsibility, zeal, and dedication with which she undertook her ministry, as well as for her contribution to the renewal and development of the UMH’s activities.
“Your ministry has been a significant contribution to the beginning of a new phase in the life of the UMH, helping young people discover the beauty of life with Christ and grow in faith, as well as in lay and civic responsibility,” the letter states.

For the next three years, Lilia Soha of the Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy will take over as leader of the “Ukrainian Youth for Christ” community.
In welcoming the new leader, His Beatitude Sviatoslav expressed his hope that her new ministry, to which she has been called today, would serve as a testimony to God’s presence among Christian youth.
“We pray to the Lord for all the graces you need to carry out your ministry properly,” reads the decree of the Head of the UGCC.
