UGCC Head Proclaims Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary as Day of Prayer for Vocations: “May We Never Lack New Workers in God’s Field in Ukraine”
On November 21, during the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, proclaimed the Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary as a Day of Prayer for Priestly and Monastic Vocations.
According to the Patriarch, in the context of the war in Ukraine, there is an ever-growing need for new vocations.
“We are in such need new workers in God’s vineyard! The Lord Himself asks us to pray: ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest’ (Luke 10:2). When, if not today, should we implore the Lord God, through the intercession of His Most Holy Mother, that we may always have enough workers in God’s field in Ukraine? Today, we feel that in the context of war, our needs are mounting, while the number of workers is dwindling.”
His Beatitude Sviatoslav called on everyone to pray for parents, “so that, by nurturing God’s plan in their children, they may help them find their calling, their personal path to the temple; so that fathers and mothers, looking at their daughters or sons, may see in them first and foremost a magnificent gift and temple of God.”
“We must all work together to complete and open this living temple of God, honoring the calling and life task given to it by God,” said the Primate.
The Head of the Church prayed to the Blessed Virgin Mary for the Church, the children of Ukraine, and their educators: “Mother of God, implore your Son to give our Church today, and your long-suffering Ukrainian people, good priests, monks, and nuns!”
