This was reported by Vatican News.

Among the Ukrainian pilgrims were mothers who lost their children in the war, mothers of prisoners of war, and those whose loved ones are serving their country. The pilgrimage is taking place as part of the Jubilee Year, held under the theme of hope. For many Ukrainians, it is an opportunity to bring their prayers for peace and justice to Rome.

Among those who met the Pope was Natalia Dubchak—the mother of Oleksandr, a soldier who fell near Debaltseve, and the initiator of the media project “Hero’s Dish,” implemented by Zhyve TV in collaboration with the Department of Military Chaplaincy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

She emphasized that it is vitally important for the families of the fallen that the memory of their loved ones live on. Such initiatives help families cope with their loss and ensure that society does not forget the value of freedom.

“We know from Soviet history that there were many ‘unknown soldiers.’ These were people who had names, surnames, and families, yet became ‘unknown soldiers’… It is important for each of us that the name of our loved one be acknowledged. That is our main goal,” Natalia Dubchak said in an interview for the program “Good Conversation.”
