The Head of the UGCC to the scientists on 191 st day of the war: You are the brains of people and treasure of the nation

In the conditions of war, we also have a great temptation to forget about supporting our science, although our scientists are the brain of the people and the treasure of the nation. Our dear scientists, we remember you, pray for you, and wish to support you with everything we can! This was emphasized by the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, during the daily address on the 191 st day of the war.

The Head of the UGCC to the scientists on 191 st day of the war: You are the brains of people and treasure of the nation

In the beginning, the Primate summarized the morning’s military news: “During the last day, heavy battles are again taking place on the entire front line. According to the reports we received this morning, the enemy is attacking our troops in the Donetsk region, trying to seize these long-suffering Ukrainian lands as quickly as possible. A ground offensive was conducted in the direction of Avdiyivka, Bakhmut, and Sloviansk. Kharkiv shuddered again from Russian rockets, bombs, and artillery. Every day, the Russians are shelling the border regions of the Sumy and Chernihiv regions from Russian territory. Active hostilities are taking place in the south of our Motherland, particularly in the Kherson region. The enemy heavily bombarded the Dnipropetrovsk region, causing a lot of destruction, human pain, blood, and tears.”

Today, His Beatitude Sviatoslav drew attention to the opinion of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky about the responsibility of the host concerning the needs of society, which is extremely important for Ukraine, which is going through a war. According to Metropolitan’s advice, a businessman should give ten percent of your profit for good causes for the community, the needs of vulnerable groups, to feel a duty to society that enables you to become wealthy.

“These are the golden rules of socially responsible business, — believes the Head of the Church. — Because we know that when an economy of a country is tied to the pursuit of profit and does not care about people, then it is a defect in itself. It takes away more than it gives. It destroys more than it builds. Instead, when we know how to love our neighbor as ourselves in our management, then everything around us blossoms.”

The Primate is convinced, that today it is paramount to understand that the solidarity that Ukraine feels from the whole world is the fruit of such a vision of humanity. And we must also think not only about our pains and needs, not only about what and from whom we can take, but also what and to whom we can give, even when we are outside the Motherland.

In his address, His Beatitude Sviatoslav expressed his gratitude and support to Ukrainian scientists.

He noted that, usually, when people experience calamity, war, or economic upheavals, everyone forgets about science and culture.

The Patriarch emphasized that thanks to the scientific potential, we can be members of the world community of scientists and participate in the achievements of world progress, and even more, make our contribution to the development of humanity in various directions of modern human knowledge.
