Patriach Josyf Cardinal Slipyj Honored in Zazdrist
On September 7, the Confessor of the Faith, Patriarch Josyf Slipyj (1892–1984), was honored at the Museum Complex “Ridna Khata” (“Native Home”) in Zazdrist, Ternopil region. On this day, 42 years ago in Rome, the Cardinal of the Underground Church entered eternity.
Students from the 4th and 9th grades of the Josyf Slipyj School in Zazdrist attended the event. A Panakhyda was celebrated by Father Roman Zavisha, pastor of St. Joseph the Betrothed church. Addressing the youth, he emphasized: “Be worthy fellow countrymen of our Patriarch; take as an example his love for his native Ukraine and the Church.”
The students prepared a literary program for the event, featuring poetic compositions dedicated to Josyf Slipyj and Ukraine.
In her address to the children, Danuta Ivankovych, Head of the Representation of St. Sophia Religious Association of Ukrainian Catholics, Inc, in Ukraine, said:
“You are a generation of strength. Your peers in the West live in peace; they do not know what shelters or Shahed drones are. You not only know about them—you live with this reality, you study, and you help your parents. Do not be afraid of great dreams; do good, and always strive for great things.”
Patriarch Josyf Slipyj was born on February 17, 1892, in the village of Zazdrist, Ternopil region. Through the efforts of of St. Sophia Religious Association of Ukrainian Catholics, Inc, the Museum Complex “Ridna Khata” was established here under the aegis of St. Sophia Representation in Ukraine.
