In his homily, Metropolitan Borys expressed the deep respect that ordinary Americans have for Ukrainians, and the gratitude of Catholics for the steadfastness and sacrificial witness of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic faithful: “Ukraine and Ukrainians are offering the greatest sacrifice—for the sake of truth, for the sake of freedom, for the God-given dignity of the human person. I want to assure you of the constant prayer of our Church abroad, and also of the tens and tens and tens of millions of people who pray daily for Ukraine.”

He encouraged those present to read Sacred Scripture—especially the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans—and to rediscover the truth of Christ’s redemptive sacrifice: “So that it does not become a dull formality, but that we may understand how deeply it is the source of our hope—the hope that does not disappoint. Christ has conquered our sin, and in Christ we are free from our sin. We are ultimately free—from the schemes of tyrants, from those who kill us, from those who seek to destroy us.”

He concluded with a call: “Let us be free in Christ. Let us receive this newness each day, so that hope, faith, and love may live in our hearts.”

Metropolitan Ihor expressed gratitude to all who pray, remember, and support Ukraine during this difficult time.
