Do you think you were on the occupiers’ “execution” list?” “I did not see those lists personally. Still, many ambassadors said that I was there,” says His Beatitude Sviatoslav in an exclusive interview in the new issue of the Patriarchate magazine.

“Let us turn hatred into courage”: His Beatitude Sviatoslav in the new issue of “The Patriarchate”

This issue’s cover was a photo captured while the Head and Father of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, was praying over one of the many mass graves of victims of the Russian occupiers in Bucha. In an interview, His Beatitude recalls: “… during prayer, I began to feel that I am standing on other bodies that have not yet been unfurled from the ground. I’m beginning to understand that the grave I see is much bigger.”

According to the Patriarch, fear and hatred are natural feelings caused by crimes, and man is called to transform the energy of these emotions into the virtue of courage. Only then will she truly defeat evil and prevent it from capturing her mind and heart. Finally, analyzing the last six months, the Head of the UGCC shares his own experience and advises on how to persevere.

The new issue also includes articles about a confessional experience and a prayer during wartime. All the following texts are adjacent to them because they touch on different aspects of what represents us, gives us strength, and is also the cause of our downfalls, our worldview. Among other articles: thorough analysis and solutions to the Ukrainian church issue, “spirituality of the street,” in the light of Ignatian spirituality. The article about the transfer of the relics of Patriarch Josyf to Ukraine in 1992, as well as the research on the martyr Fr. Augustyn Tsebrovsky — remind us that there have been difficult periods in our history before and that we can learn new experiences from learning about them.
