We support each other, comfort each other, and create spaces of resilience in our churches and monasteries. And we want the whole world to know and hear: Ukraine stands, Ukraine fights, Ukraine prays! This was said by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, in his traditional weekly video address in the 207th week of Russia’s large-scale war against Ukraine.

Commenting on the events of the past week, the Primate noted that this week in Ukraine can be characterized by one phrase: “Human warmth.” “Against the backdrop of severe frosts and nightly strikes on our cities and villages with various Russian weapons, our energy workers and rescuers are defending people’s lives day and night, bringing warmth and light back to our homes. It was a week of pain and cold, but at the same time, a week of human heroism,” said the Head of the UGCC.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked God for granting us another week: “We are grateful that, despite the trials, our unbreakable spirit remains steadfast. Every night, the enemy commits new crimes against humanity. These attacks have no military or strategic purpose—their target is the civilian population.”

He noted that this week we witnessed enormous solidarity with Ukraine from the communities of our Church and ordinary people, Christians from different countries around the world. In particular, the first generators collected by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese arrived in Kyiv.

“I had the opportunity to personally convey to the Polish ambassador in Kyiv our deep gratitude for this solidarity, which often counteracts political manipulation and xenophobic sentiments provoked by Russian propaganda,” said the spiritual leader of Ukrainians.
