From His Beatitude Sviatoslav: “During the pre-Nativity Fast, let us offer our prayers for victory for the Ukrainian army”
On Monday, November 28, the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav reminded us of the beginning of the pre-Christmas fast, which is popularly called Pylypivka.
“Yesterday, we celebrated the Feast of the Apostle Philip, and today we begin the time of preparation for Christmas. The pre-Nativity is a fast of joyful expectation. It happens because we are waiting for the coming of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ among us in the flesh. Therefore, let this time be a time of spiritual feat when we will try to defeat the evil in our hearts,” the Head of the UGCC wished.
Therefore, he urged to start the Holy Sacrament of Confession at this time. “It is best to do this at the beginning and to develop a forty-day fasting program with your spiritual father, a clergyman. Understand what type of spiritual exercises, prayers, or various ascetic types of struggle with your faults and sins you need,” His Beatitude Sviatoslav advised.
“At this time, let us sacrifice our spiritual endeavors, our prayers for the victory of the Ukrainian people in this unequal battle, for our Ukrainian army,” urged the Head of the UGCC.
