British Defence Minister Visits the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cathedral in London
British Defence Minister Wes Streeting visited the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Family in London to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
This was reported by the press office of the London Eparchy of the Holy Family.
The minister was welcomed by the rector, Fr. Dr. Vitaliy Fedun, members of the clergy, parishioners of the cathedral, and seminarians. During the meeting, Wes Streeting expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s unwavering support for Ukraine.
The minister recalled the century-long partnership between Ukraine and the United Kingdom and the declaration signed as part of this partnership to enhance cooperation in the fields of security and defence. He emphasized the long-standing support and partnership between the two countries.
At the cathedral, Wes Streeting lit a lamp as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and in memory of those who lost their lives in the war. The minister thanked the clergy and all the cathedral staff for their service to the Ukrainian community and for praying together with the Ukrainian congregation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, those present jointly sang Ukraine’s spiritual hymn, “God, Great and One.”
The Defence Minister’s visit on Independence Day served as yet another sign of the United Kingdom’s solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
“We sincerely thank British Defence Minister Wes Streeting for visiting our parish, for his concern for the Ukrainian community, and for his unwavering solidarity with Ukraine. As the minister recently emphasized: ‘The front lines in Ukraine are the front lines of our freedom and democracy,’” the message reads.
