Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś decided to donate all funds collected on Sunday, February 1, to help the residents of Kyiv. The donations collected will be used to purchase generators and mobile heating stations for the Ukrainian capital, which is under constant Russian attack and faces the threat of large-scale power and heat outages.

“We cannot remain indifferent,” Archbishop of Krakow announces fundraising campaign to aid Kyiv

The Archdiocese of Krakow of the Roman Catholic Church reported.

In a letter to the faithful of the Archdiocese of Krakow, Metropolitan Grzegorz Ryś quoted an appeal by the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk. The appeal describes another difficult night in Kyiv, when the temperature plummeted to minus 10 degrees Celsius, especially affecting areas on the left bank of the city. “The struggle for life, warmth, and light continues,” the Primate of the UGCC emphasized.

Announcing a fundraiser to help Kyiv, Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś called on the faithful to respond to this appeal: “We cannot remain indifferent. Therefore, I announce that all funds collected on Sunday, February 1, throughout the archdiocese will be directed to help Kyiv. I know that a week before that, the Great Christmas Charity Orchestra will be held, which you generously support. Nevertheless, I dare to ask you for the same generosity. It’s a matter of life and death!”

The cardinal personally financed the purchase of the first generator.
