Victory will mean the return of the children of our homeland, now scattered around the world, to rebuild it. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, said this on the 72 nd week of the tremendous full-scale war that Russia has brought to Ukraine’s peaceful land.

The Primate noted that these days we are in deep distress for Kramatorsk, where the Russians again shelled civilians, destroying a cafe with missiles in broad daylight, killing 12 people, three of them children.

In Berdiansk, the Head of the Church says in occupied Zaporizhzhia, Russians are starting to war against children — they killed two teenagers, alleging they had pro-Ukrainian sentiments.

“Children are at the forefront of Russian repression. But even today, we want the world to hear that Ukraine is standing despite the pain, suffering, blood, and tears! Ukraine is fighting! Ukraine is praying!” the spiritual leader emphasized.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked the Holy Father Francis for his recent humanitarian mission. “These days, his Eminence Cardinal Konrad Krajewski arrived in Ukraine with another humanitarian convoy and visited our Basilian monastery in Kherson, bringing food and other essential items. We want to thank everyone mindful of the pain of Ukraine, of the victims of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant explosion,” said the Head of the Church.

The Head of the UGCC also spoke of the President of Ukraine’s program for the transformation of Ukraine, which in many aspects corresponds to the UGCC’s strategy for 2030. “We are all beginning to realize that victory is not only the de-occupation of all territories and reclaiming the 1991 border. Victory is the resurgence of the space of life across the state’s entire territory.”

It was very important to hear that the government considers traditional family values the central pillar of Ukraine’s transformation.
