UGCC Head in the 187th week of the war: This week will be remembered in world history for a day of unprecedented aggression by Russia against a united Europe
The world is becoming further aware that Russia is attempting to export war to other European countries and is testing the strength of global resistance. This was stated by the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, in his traditional video address during the 187th week of Russia’s horrendous war against Ukraine.

The Primate noted that this week will be remembered in European and world history for a day of unprecedented Russian aggression against a united Europe. On September 10, around 20 enemy drones struck Poland, reaching 300 kilometers deep into its territory.
“Today, we express our solidarity with the Polish people, supporting the statements of the foreign ministers of Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, and the international community, which unanimously defended Poland during the UN Security Council meeting. We affirm that war is a crime against God and humanity,” emphasized His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
“Our defenders in Donbas, Zaporizhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions realize that they are protecting the peace and well-being of Europe with their own lives. Because peace on the continent is not a given, but something that must be defended,” the spiritual leader said.
Speaking about events in church life, the Head of the Church said that it began with a visit by Eastern Catholic bishops of Europe to Vienna, Austria.
“The bishops discussed the pains and joys of their communities. We felt the sincere support of our brothers in Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and other countries. We thanked them for accepting our people. We also had the opportunity to speak to the Austrian government on behalf of Ukrainian immigrants. Most of our people quickly integrated, learned the language, and only a third receive social assistance. This shows that Ukrainians are becoming an important part of the European space and Austrian society,” said the Primate.

Also this week in Gniezno, the city where the Polish people were baptized, an intellectual gathering of leaders convened — from Central and Eastern Europe under the slogan “The Courage of Peace.” Poland celebrated the millennium of the coronation of its first king, but in the current circumstances, we reflected together on ways to build peace.
“We, on behalf of Ukraine, have shown that to build a true and just peace, it is necessary to be courageous…,” summarized His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
