Podil and Holosiivskyi Districts of Kyiv Receive Generators from the UGCC, Donated by Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś
On February 6, the Podil and Holosiivskyi districts of Kyiv received generators from the Catholic Church to meet the basic needs of residents during the energy crisis. The equipment was provided by the Patriarchal Foundation of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Wise Cause, which received the aid from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Krakow in response to a request from His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
This was reported by the press service of the Patriarchal Foundation Wise Cause.
The equipment is intended to ensure the operation of heating centers, educational institutions, and other critical infrastructure facilities amid prolonged power, heating, and water outages caused by massive Russian shelling. The equipment was handed over at the Patriarchal Center of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The event was attended by Volodymyr Nakonechny, head of the Podil District State Administration in Kyiv, Sofia Dunaevska, head of the Holosiivskyi District State Administration in Kyiv, representatives of the Patriarchal Foundation Wise Cause, clergy, and invited guests.
Sofia Dunaevska, head of the Holosiivskyi District State Administration, emphasized that the generators received are critical for meeting the basic needs of the district’s residents. “This is essential support, as there are nearly 60 warming centers operating in the Holosiivskyi district. People come there to warm up, charge their devices, and drink hot tea. In addition, these generators will be transferred to kindergartens, which continue to operate even during power and heating outages,” she said, thanking the UGCC and Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś for their support.
Father Roman Ilnytskyi, a priest of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the Holosiivskyi district, also expressed his gratitude, highlighting the magnitude of the challenges facing the capital’s largest district in terms of territory. He noted that the generators and heaters provided are urgently needed in the context of frequent blackouts and thanked the donors and the Archdiocese of Krakow.
The head of the Podil District State Administration, Volodymyr Nakonechny, spoke about the delivery route of this aid and the role of the Church in responding rapidly to the crisis. According to him, after the mass power outages in Kyiv, the first batch of aid was sent to the Desnianskyi district, and later to the Podil district.
“I sincerely thank the Polish people, our Polish brothers and sisters, and especially Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś. I am grateful to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, which has always stood by the Ukrainian people and is now helping the capital to withstand this energy blockade. We have received powerful generators for resilience centers, which will operate in educational institutions. Thousands of Kyiv residents will be able to keep warm there in the event of blackouts or power, heat, or water outages,” he concluded.
