About Blessed Bishop and Martyr Vasyl Velychkovsky

Blessed Vasyl Velychkovsky was a modern-day martyr from Ukraine who endured persecution for his steadfast faith under Soviet oppression. He was beatified by Saint Pope John Paul II in 2001 in recognition of his heroic witness to Christ.

Through God’s providence, Blessed Vasyl spent the final year of his earthly life in Canada, where he passed away in Winnipeg in 1973. In 2002, his fully intact body was enshrined at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg, now home to the Blessed Vasyl Velychkovsky National Martyr’s Shrine.

A Call to the Faithful

This pilgrimage event invites all parishioners and faithful across Alberta to deepen their devotion, reflect on the courage of Blessed Vasyl, and seek spiritual strength through prayer and veneration.
Come and experience the grace that flows through the witness of a true servant of God.
