Among the tens of thousands of pilgrims, tourists, and Romans who gathered at noon on Sunday, November 12, 2023, in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican to pray with Pope Francis were Ukrainians and monks of the Basilian Order of St. Josaphat, who arrived to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the martyrdom of the saint. While greeting the various pilgrimage groups after the prayer, the Holy Father offered them a separate word.

“I warmly welcome the pilgrimage of the Ukrainian faithful and Basilian monks — I see Ukrainian flags over there — who have come from different countries to celebrate the fourth centenary of the martyrdom of St. Josaphat. Together with you, I pray for peace in your suffering country,” the Pope said and then addressed everyone who was listening: “Brothers and sisters, let us remember martyred Ukraine. Let us not forget it!”
