His Beatitude Sviatoslav Introduces the UGCC Delegation to Pope Francis at the Pontifical Synod

On October 2, during the first day of the XVI General Assembly of the Pontifical Synod, His Beatitude Sviatoslav introduced the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church delegation to Pope Francis, including the Most Reverend Bishops Bohdan Dzyurakh and Teodor Martyniuk. The hierarchs expressed their gratitude to the Pope for his commitment to Ukraine and requested further efforts by the Holy See to secure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

The Synod on Synodality, titled “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission,” is being held for the second consecutive year in October at the Vatican. The UGCC is represented by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Church, Bishop Bohdan Dzyurakh, Apostolic Exarch in Germany and Scandinavia, and Bishop Teodor Martyniuk, Auxiliary Bishop of the Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy.

The Holy Father thanked the UGCC delegates for their active participation in the Pontifical Synod and for their pastoral dedication during the war. His Beatitude emphasized the urgency of supporting Ukraine and consolidating the Catholic Church’s efforts to address the humanitarian crisis and the new challenges stemming from Russian aggression. The Holy Father reassured the UGCC hierarchs of his continued commitment to mobilizing the Church’s diplomatic and charitable mechanisms in aid of Ukraine.

It is noteworthy that Pope Francis has declared October 7 as a Day of Prayer and Fasting for World Peace. His call extends to all Christians, inviting them to dedicate this day to prayer and fasting for an end to wars worldwide. On Sunday, October 6, Pope Francis will visit the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome to pray the rosary before the miraculous icon of the “Salvation of the Roman People”. He also invites the participants of the Pontifical Synod to accompany him in this prayer.
