His Beatitude Sviatoslav congratulated Bishop Yevhen Popovych, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Przemysl-Warsaw, Chairman of the UGCC Canonical Department, on the 10th anniversary of his episcopal consecration.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav congratulated Bishop Yevhen Popovych on the 10th anniversary of his consecration

“Ten years ago, you received the episcopal ordination from our hands, which became a source of God’s generous graces for the priests and laity of our Church in Poland, who revere you as a spiritual father and a zealous preacher of the Gospel of Christ,” the Primate said in his greeting letter. He also thanked Bishop Yevhen for his ministry in the Canonical Department of the Patriarchal Curia, which manifests concern for the good of the entire Church.

“We wish you abundant God’s blessings, the assistance of the Holy Spirit in all your endeavors for the glory of God and the well-being of our Church and people — for many good years,” the Patriarch said.

The consecration of Bishop Yevhen Popovych, then Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Przemyśl-Warsaw, took place in the Archdiocese of St. John the Baptist in Przemyśl (Poland) on December 21, 2013. The principal consecrator was the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, and the co-consecrators were Archbishop and Metropolitan of Przemysl and Warsaw Ivan Martyniak and Bishop Volodymyr Yushchak of Wroclaw-Gdańsk.

In his sermon during the consecration, the Head of the UGCC said to the newly ordained Bishop Yevhen: “Once again, our people are disturbed. We do not know what is waiting for us. We do not know what kind of testimony the Lord God will call our Church to in Eastern Europe, but the ordination of Bishop Yevhen is a sign that the Lord will always be with us. You do not yet know which paths the Lord will lead you in your episcopal ministry. You do not yet know what challenges, tasks, and tests will come your way, but be sure He is in and with you. He will always be the source of your life and ministry.”

Almost two years later, on December 19, 2015, Bishop Yevhen Popovych was enthroned as Archbishop and Metropolitan of Przemyśl-Warsaw in Przemyśl.
