“The Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ unites all Ukrainians, unites all those who truly believe and seek God as the Way, Truth, and Life,” said Bishop Yosyf Milian, Protosyncellus of the Kyiv Archeparchy, on the air of “Voskresinnya. Live Radio” on the 10th anniversary of the consecration of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv.

“His Beatitude Patriarch Lubomyr Husar became the cornerstone of the construction of the Patriarchal Cathedral”: Bishop Yosyf Milian

Bishop Josyf emphasized that His Beatitude Patriarch Lubomyr Husar became the cornerstone of the construction of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ of the UGCC in Kyiv.

“Not everyone welcomed it with pleasure, but we see a very symbolic gesture here because, thanks to it, our church has become even more open to people,” said the bishop.

During the interview, Bishop Yosyf also shared his memories of the ways of collecting donations for the construction of the Patriarchal Cathedral. “Thanks to the contributions of Ukrainians from all over the world, the construction of the Patriarchal Cathedral became a national project. During a meeting with respectable politicians and people in business, I remember someone asked His Beatitude Lubomyr about the construction cost. A significant amount of money was mentioned, which grew over the years due to inflation. Those people offered to cover the entire sum, but His Beatitude Lubomyr insisted that all Ukrainians build this cathedral. That is why it became a national cathedral.”

Bishop Yosyf also described how the Patriarchal Cathedral became a hub and a haven for many Ukrainians during the Maidan and the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

During the second broadcast of the conversation, the studio discussed the concept of filling the interior of the Patriarchal Cathedral, which was maintained according to the plan of the leading architect, Mr. Mykola Levchuk.

The Protosyncellus of the Kyiv Archeparchy explained that a whole team of experts is working on the cathedral’s iconostasis. There have been many meetings and discussions on this topic.

“What we see today in the whole concept of the iconostasis is called the Crown of St. Volodymyr, for we are the Church of St. Volodymyr’s baptism. This crown around the columns of the altar has all the canonical rows that a traditional iconostasis should have.”
