Head of UGCC Discusses Spiritual Guidance Development for Ukrainians in Sweden with Archbishop of Stockholm
In the course of his pastoral visit to Sweden, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the UGCC, visited Cardinal Anders Arborelius, Archbishop of the Stockholm Diocese. The meeting, which took place on Sunday, October 13, was also attended by the Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainians in Germany and the Scandinavian countries, Bishop Bohdan Dzyurakh and Vicar General of the Stockholm Diocese, Father Pascal René Lung.
This meeting provided an outstanding opportunity for the Ukrainian hierarchs to express their gratitude to the representatives of the Catholic Church in Sweden for their comprehensive support to the Ukrainian pastoral care as well as to discuss the future development of the Ukrainian communities in the country.
His Beatitude Sviatoslav expressed his gratitude to Cardinal Arborelius for his visit to Ukraine, which served as sign of solidarity and support. The hierarchs then discussed the challenges posed by the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, as well as the issue of spiritual care for Ukrainians in Sweden. The Ukrainian hierarchs addressed the need for new priests and emphasized that refugees are active missionaries sharing their faith, culture and spirituality, and testifying to the unity of the Catholic Church in diversity.

Cardinal Arborelius affirmed his continued commitment to supporting Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Sweden. The Archbishop of Stockholm shared his positive impressions of visiting the Ukrainian community and commended the ministry of the priest of the UGCC in Stockholm, Andriy Melnychuk, and the collaboration with the Apostolic Exarch, Bishop Bohdan Dzyurakh.
Particular focus was given to efforts to halt Russian aggression and the role of Churches and religious organizations in overcoming the repercussions of the war.
