“Lord Jesus, enlighten the leaders. Lord Jesus, destroy the plans of war. Lord Jesus, dispel hatred. Lord Jesus, strengthen hope. Lord Jesus, reconcile all hearts. Lord Jesus, unite all nations in yourself. Lord Jesus, protect the poor and helpless. Lord Jesus, comfort those who suffer. Lord Jesus, receive those who perished from violence,” such was the prayer offered in the evening of October 27 in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, where the prayer meeting responded to every call: “Lord, grant peace to our days.”

During a general audience on Wednesday, October 18, Pope Francis invited the entire Catholic Church, as well as Christians of other denominations and believers of other religions, to observe a day of prayer, fasting, and penance for peace in the Holy Land, Ukraine and all parts of the world wounded by war on October 27 in a manner consistent with their respective religious traditions.

In the Vatican, the leading service as part of this initiative was held in the evening at St. Peter’s Basilica and personally led by the Holy Father. The prayer event, which gathered numerous worshippers, including participants of the Synodal Assembly, which brought together delegates from all over the world, began with the rosary praying and meditation on the Sorrowful mysteries.

After the moment of prayerful contemplation, the Eucharistic Adoration began, including the Liturgy of the Word.
