On Sunday, June 25, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, Prefect of the new Dicastery for the Service of Charity, arrived in Lviv, from where he traveled to Kherson on Monday morning. He personally delivered to Ukraine a part of the humanitarian aid that Holy Father Francis handed over to the people affected by the Russians’ explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.

The Apostolic Almoner told this to the Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, whom he spoke with by phone.

“This was the Holy Father’s intention to go to the place where the Russians destroyed the dam,” said Cardinal Krajewski.

In south Ukraine, the papal alms distributor will visit Greek and Roman Catholic parishes and Orthodox parishes too.

He noted that last week one cargo truck with humanitarian aid was sent from St. Sophia Cathedral in Rome to the victims of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam explosion, and soon another car will be sent to Kherson with the aid needed in this area.

Cardinal Konrad Krajewski told His Beatitude Sviatoslav that with this mission, His Holiness Pope Francis seeks to affirm his closeness to the Ukrainian Church and people. “The Pope is constantly praying for Ukraine,” he added.
