Almost PLN 6 million raised for Kyiv: Head of the UGCC thanks Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś and the Polish people for generators and heaters
His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, received detailed information from Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś, Metropolitan of Krakow, about the results of a charity collection in the Archdiocese of Krakow to help Kyiv residents suffering from cold weather and power outages caused by Russian aggression. The funds raised made it possible to provide substantial material support, and the UGCC expresses its deep gratitude to all donors in Poland for their Christian solidarity.

According to Cardinal Ryś, in response to his appeal of January 24, 2026, the faithful of the Archdiocese of Krakow and people of good will donated PLN 5,740,000 to the Caritas account. These funds have already been used to purchase and send to Kyiv 31 high-power generators, 172 medium-power generators, 900 heaters, 200 charging stations, several tons of food, and industrial goods for setting up resilience centers at Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic parishes in Kyiv.

The cardinal announced that additional shipments of generators and food requested by “our brothers in Kyiv” are planned for the coming days. “We are grateful to the faithful in our parishes for their generous gifts and solidarity with the residents of Kyiv and the surrounding area who are suffering from the destruction of war. Let us continue this work!” said Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś.

In response to this message, His Beatitude Sviatoslav expressed his sincere gratitude: “Your Eminence! On behalf of all those whom you have warmed and saved with true Christian love, we offer you our most profound gratitude. We thank you personally for your stance and courage. Thank you for launching this initiative, which has stirred Poland and Ukraine. We thank all the good people in Poland, the episcopate, the clergy, the monks, the volunteers, and everyone who worked on this aid campaign for Kyiv. We sincerely thank and pray for all those who gave their ‘widow’s mite’ and their last to support the weakest. Kyiv and Ukraine will always remember your solidarity. The struggle for humanity continues. Ukraine prays for its donors and benefactors. May the Lord reward you all with His blessings.”
Generators and heaters received by the UGCC in the first batch of aid are already being used in kindergartens, schools, and emergency shelters in the Desnianskyi, Podilskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts of Kyiv. Humanitarian aid is delivered to the affected areas by the Patriarchal Foundation of the UGCC “Mudra Sprava” (Wise Cause).
