80 Trees Planted to Mark 80th Anniversary of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky
Memorial services were held in the Sheptytsky family village of Prylbychi to mark the 80th anniversary of the righteous Andrey Sheptytsky.
This was reported by the information service of the UGCC Bureau for Ecology.
As part of the commemoration, Fr. Serhiy Dovba, the eco-referent of the Lviv Archeparchy, gave a presentation to numerous parish residents, guests, and clergy on the Metropolitan’s commitment to God’s creation and nature.
The presentation included interesting and lesser-known facts about the Metropolitan’s life and pastoral work, demonstrating his love for and harmonious relationship with God’s creation. This included both eco-education initiatives and direct environmental activities, such as establishing the first nature reserves on Ukrainian lands.
At the end of the lecture, a new Church Ecological Calendar for 2025 was presented, featuring quotes from Andrey Sheptytsky, photographs of eco-projects, activities, and eco-tips.
The commemorative events concluded with the joint planting of 80 symbolic fruit tree seedlings as part of the nationwide eco-social initiative, “Plant a Tree of Peace,” establishing the “Victory Garden” in Prylbychi.
