During Wednesday’s meeting with parishioners, Pope Francis directed parishioners’ thoughts to long-suffering Ukraine several times.

Pope Francis renewed the call to pray for Ukrainians who are victims of great cruelty

“I repeat my encouragement to pray for long-suffering Ukraine. We ask the Lord for peace for these people going through so much torment. People, who are suffering from great cruelty and many atrocities from the mercenaries waging war,” said Pope Francis, addressing the participants of the general audience, which took place on Wednesday, October 9, 2022, in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.

While meeting with parishioners, the Holy Father mentioned the situation in Ukraine three times. At first, the condemnation of the “insane war, the victim of which is long-suffering Ukraine” and voicing the curse of other wars during the reflections devoted to the recent apostolic journey.

Congratulating the Polish citizens, he mentioned that they would celebrate the anniversary of Poland’s independence the day after tomorrow. Thus, he wished that it “awakens in everyone gratitude to God and renew efforts in favor of fraternity, protection of life and dignity of the human person in their country and the international arena, especially in neighboring Ukraine.”
