On May 1, 2025, another shipment of humanitarian aid for Ukraine was dispatched from the Procathedral of Saint Sophia in Rome. This particular shipment was made especially meaningful by the involvement of Pope Francis: it included items personally donated by the Holy Father during his lifetime. This gift was his final expression of love and support for the Ukrainian people.

The press service of St. Sophia Cathedral in Rome reported the event.

Parishioners of the cathedral, volunteers, students of the Pontifical College of St. Josaphat, clergy, and members of the Ukrainian community in Rome came together to prepare and load a shipment of food, clothing, hygiene products, medicine, and other essential supplies.

These items will be delivered to the regions of Ukraine most affected by the war.

After the loading was complete, volunteers, clergy, and all present gathered in the cathedral for communal prayer. During the Moleben to the Blessed Virgin Mary, special intentions were offered for peace in Ukraine, for the wounded, for displaced persons, and for all those in the war zone.

“This aid is not only a material contribution, but also a profound spiritual sign of solidarity and love. Pope Francis did not forget the suffering Ukrainian people until his last breath,” said the organizers of the mission.
