His Beatitude Sviatoslav, with His Beatitude Epiphanius discussed the reform of the church calendar
On December 24, 2022, the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav conducted a meeting with the Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine OCU, His Beatitude Epiphanius. The meeting occurred at his residence, the Metropolitan House, on the territory of St Michael’s Golden-Top Monastery.
Outlining the past year, the parties discussed the current situation in interconfessional and state-church relations in Ukraine, the proceeding Russian aggression against our country, opportunities for developing Ukraine in the post-war period, and several other imperative matters.
The leaders of the Churches paid particular attention to the coordination of positions regarding reforming the church calendar, which became increasingly urgent before the Christmas and Easter holidays. After the discussion, the heads proposed creating a joint working group to study this issue comprehensively.
This working group should develop specific proposals for the Prelates and Synods of both Churches in the context of preparations for celebrating the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council held in Nicaea in 325. This Council laid down the calendar principles of church life.
