On the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the Buchach Lyceum named after St. Josaphat, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church addressed those present with an earnest appeal to foster new vocations to the priesthood and monastic life. The Primate thanked the Lyceum for the vocations it has given to the Church and emphasized the importance of this mission for the future of the Church and the people.

Addressing young men and women, the Patriarch emphasized the Church’s special need for new vocations. “Young people, the Church needs you! Our monasteries and convents, our seminaries are awaiting you. Today, when our people are facing such difficulties, the presence of a young priest beside them is a sign of hope,” said the Head of the UGCC.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav separately called on parents not to hinder their children’s vocations. “I ask parents, if you see that your son or daughter truly has a vocation, do not waste it, do not suppress it, because your child will then truly be unhappy in that life,” emphasized the Primate.

The Head of the UGCC also addressed special words to the priests: “Fathers, I urge you to ensure that God, through your work, gives new priests, new generations of clergy and monastics to His Church.”

His Beatitude Sviatoslav announced that next year the main theme of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC will be the vocation and cultivation of vocations to the monastic and priestly states.
