His Beatitude Sviatoslav presented the corresponding decree, issued on February 5, to Fr. Yuriy during a meeting of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC in Ukraine, which took place on February 7–8 in Lviv.

The Commission on Human Resources of the Kyiv-Halych Major Archbishopric of the UGCC is a body designed to assist the Head of the Church and the Synod of Bishops in coordinating the formation of the staff policy of the Church and its structures in Ukraine through assistance in selecting candidates for academic degrees and finding scholarships for them.

Father Yuriy Shchurko, commenting on the new appointment, noted that the commission includes representatives from each eparchy of the UGCC, as well as rectors of seminaries. They all collaborate to enable young Ukrainians who desire to serve the Church to develop their talents, specifically through quality education.

Father Yuriy emphasizes that during the war, one of the principal tasks of the commission is to cooperate with international partners to urge them to support the development of the theological commission in Ukraine. “We are willing to support young talents who will develop our Church in the future. They can get a third-level education both in Ukraine and in the world’s prominent universities so that on their return, they can contribute to the development of our Church, society, and Ukraine.”
